The Music Business Academy reserves the right not to award a scholarship if a suitable candidate is not found. Candidates are screened on ability, which is determined by their desire to succeed, not their background or their socio-economic status. It is for this reason that appointments are made irrespective of race, creed, cultural or educational background or any other factors. Appointments are made solely on merit, and it is the assertion of The Music Business Academy that merit is based on a yearning and burning desire to make a difference in the world.

One scholarship per subject per year is usually awarded, although in special circumstances MBA may make more than one scholarship award per year. Also, for the purpose of making the bursary programmes available to many people, one person will only be eligible for one bursary per year. Attendance of 90% of classes is compulsory, failing which the scholarship will automatically be cancelled.
